Mecole Hardman is making a return to the Kansas City Chiefs after a brief stint with the New York Jets. According to ESPN and confirmed by CBS Sports Lead NFL Insider Jonathan Jones, the Jets have decided to part ways with Hardman after just six games, trading him back to the Chiefs in an exchange involving late-round draft picks.

In this deal, the Jets will receive a sixth-round pick from the Chiefs for the 2025 NFL Draft and will send a seventh-round selection to Kansas City in return. Hardman’s time with the Jets was rather uneventful, as he only managed to get on the field for 28 snaps this season after signing a one-year, $4 million deal with the team. He recorded just one catch for six yards in five games and saw only three targets during his short tenure with the Jets, which is quite different from his experience in Kansas City.

Hardman, secured with $3.6 million in guarantees by the Jets, was overtaken on the depth chart by newcomer Xavier Gipson, who assumed the position of the fourth wide receiver. During training camp, Gipson also clinched the punt-returning role from Hardman. By Week 5, Hardman wasn’t selected to play, even though he was fit. Instead, Irv Charles was chosen as the fifth receiver against the Denver Broncos that week, attributed to his prowess in special teams.

Hardman, originally a second-round pick for the Chiefs, had a productive four seasons in Kansas City, amassing 151 receptions for 2,088 yards and 16 touchdowns. His standout season was his rookie year in 2019 when he hauled in 26 catches for 538 yards and six touchdowns, averaging an impressive 20.7 yards per catch.
