Feb 5, 2024

In our weekly MVP ladder update, Nikola Jokic swept the board with his consistency, while Joel Embiid slipped down the rankings due to injury. Let’s take a closer look at the top five candidates after Week 15 of the 2023-24 NBA season:

Weekly MVP Ladder Update: Jokic Leads, Tatum and Embiid Slip
  1. Nikola Jokic
The Denver Nuggets’ star center showed his dominance this week, including a staggering 26 points, 16 rebounds and 12 assists against the Sixers. With the Nuggets on the rise, Jokic tops our MVP list.
  2. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been outstanding for the Oklahoma City Thunder this season, leading the Thunder to an impressive 35 wins and 15 losses in the West. His consistency, including eight consecutive 30+ point performances, puts him second on our list.
  3. Giannis Antetokounmpo
Despite Giannis Antetokounmpo’s individual performance, his Bucks team struggled to win last week. As the Bucks continue to face challenges under head coach Doc Rivers, the reigning MVP is third on our list.
  4. Joel Embiid
Joel Embiid unfortunately suffered a meniscus injury and slipped down the rankings this week. The Sixers struggled in his absence, highlighting his importance to the team’s success.
  5. Jayson Tatum
Jayson Tatum’s prime form with the Boston Celtics put him in the top five, even though he fell short against the shorthanded Los Angeles Lakers. His bounce-back performance against the Indiana Pacers, a 30-point outing showcased his value to the Celtics.

As the season progresses, the MVP race remains tight, with every player looking to leave their mark on the league.
